Derek Zoolander and Hansel, also known as the alter-egos of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the movie Zoolander, made a surprise appearance at the Valentino fashion show in Paris last Tuesday – a great PR stunt to announce the release of the new Zoolander movie.
The first Zoolander movie aired in 2001, making it 14 years since we had the honour of meeting the “really really ridicules good looking” two male models. Since the release of the first movie fans have been crying out for a sequel, and then finally at the Valentino show, the dynamic modeling duo re-entered the catwalk, with their signature look “blue steel”
The two models were dressed in printed suits, one in light blue and one in navy, combined with matching coats hanging over their shoulders. Like in a scene out of the movie, the audience was amazed to see Hansel and Derek on stage, and many of them immediately grabbed their phones to get a shot of the two characters.
The videos and photos have since gone viral, and several of the videos have been watched over 1.5 million times on YouTube. From a PR perspective, this is a great way to promote the upcoming Zoolander movie. The new movie will be released in 2016. And personally, I am very excited to see what Hansel and Derek have been up to for the last 14 years, besides drinking orange-mocha-frappucinos.
